Prayer is at the centre of the spiritual life of a Christian. It is about connecting and communicating with God.  There are as many ways of praying as there are individuals. Our personalities and life experiences influence how we pray.  Each week the AFS shares a new and different prayer resource for your reflection.

Prayers in preparation for our National Day of Truth and Reconciliation - 30 September

Creator, on this National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we all come before you to present the First Nations, Inuit and Métis people of Canada. We honour the memory of the victims who suffered under the yoke of abuse over many generations. We come with humility and respect to gather under the banner of your love and forgiveness. Lord Jesus, as you have reconciled each of your children with the Creator, we ask you to make us agents of peace and healing to one another. You have come so that all may have life and life in abundance. Therefore, we ask that you bless the Indigenous people with all the resources necessary for all to enjoy a healthy and abundant life as your heart desires. We pray today that you will heal and repair the irreparable as we move forward in this process of reconciliation. We keep our eyes fixed on you for healing. We also implore you to guide our leaders so that they may hear your voice and lead us on the path of unity so that we may be a strong people. Lord, we pray that your kindness and mercy will be renewed each day and that your Spirit be poured out upon our nation from sea to sea to sea. In Jesus’ name, amen!

Dignity

Our baptismal pledge to “respect the dignity of every human being” means, at the very least, to listen to one another. Alongside our listening, we must also work for what we can do on behalf of the least, and the last, and the lowly – the anguished multitudes of our own country and our world – to redress the injustice, poverty, and unconscionable suffering which is their daily bread. TROUBLED WORLD -  13 September

We Pray

.....World peace seems impossible, God. Economic peace. Political peace. Psychological peace. It's all pretty hard. But today I'm praying I will find ways to live at peace with those around me. And I pray that my peace-making in my small circle will have influence in circles beyond. May we all make every effort to live at peace with everyone. PRAYER FOR SEPTEMBER

May you have:

Enough happiness to keep you sweet,

Enough trials to keep you strong,

Enough sorrow to keep you happy,

Enough failure to keep you humble,

Enough success to keep you eager,

Enough wealth to meet your needs,

Enough enthusiasm to look forward,

Enough friends to give you comfort,

Enough faith to banish depression,

Enough determination to make each day better than yesterday,

And God to keep you going...

A Prayer for Patience Patient Father, there are many things I do that would justify an impatient response. Thank you for choosing to show me grace. Help me notice when I have the opportunity to do the same to others. Remind me of your love for the person I’m interacting with and how my words reflect you. Give me the wisdom to have conversations with others about my frustrations, and help me grow in my ability to be patient, knowing I would want the same in return. Amen.   A Short Prayer for Patience Lord, grant me patience for today to navigate any challenges I encounter. With You by my side, nothing is impossible. I pray for Your Holy Spirit to fill me with grace and patience, so I may end the day with my head held high. I entrust all to You, Lord. Amen

A Prayer of Trust in God’s Will

O God, early in the morning I cry to You.
Help me to pray and to concentrate my thoughts on You; 
I cannot do this alone.
In me there is darkness, but with You there is light. 
I am lonely, but You do not leave me.
I am feeble in heart, but with You there is help.
